Africa’s Film & Entertainment Marketplace, Built for the Next Generation
ABOUT
Africa Film & Entertainment Expo
AFEE is built to create a unified platform for African content, one that strengthens the value chain, opens access to new markets, and positions the continent’s creative industries for long-term growth
Why Now?
Africa’s creative economy is moving from momentum to market opportunity, and AFEE is being built for exactly that shift. Across the continent, the film and audiovisual sector already supports an estimated 5 million jobs and contributes around US$5 billion to GDP, with the potential to grow far further if stronger market structures, financing pathways, and distribution systems are put in place. AFEE exists to help convert that momentum into visibility, partnerships, and long-term industry growth.
Morocco strengthens that opportunity as a host market. Through the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre, one of the world’s oldest public film institutions, the country regulates and promotes both film and audiovisual production, while also offering an official 30% reimbursement for eligible foreign productions that meet local spend and shooting thresholds. That gives AFEE a host environment that already speaks the language of production, co-creation, and international collaboration.
The digital ecosystem is also accelerating. Morocco’s Digital Morocco 2030 strategy aims to create 240,000 direct jobs and position the Kingdom as a digital hub, while ANRT reported 41.464 million internet subscriptions by the end of 2025, with internet penetration at 112.59% and FTTH subscriptions up 32.87% year over year to 1.409 million. This is the right moment to create a platform that connects African content with audiences, technologies, distributors, and investors in a more structured way.
Government and institutional momentum is expanding into adjacent creative sectors, too. In 2024, Morocco launched the first Morocco Gaming Expo, and later, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, together with Huawei Morocco, launched the first Gaming Startups Meeting Day as part of the country’s gaming industry development effort. AFEE can build on that broader momentum while keeping African film at the centre of its identity.
